Back in the early 90’s Mr and Mrs Wolf consumed a lot of Basedow’s ‘White Burgundy’. However the Wolf’s dalliance with Burgundy started when the Wolf was more of a pup, undertaking work experience with Barossa winemaker Doug Lehmann where he helped with burgundy vintages.

The term Burgundy in reference to Australian wine can no longer be used and so in the later 90’s Burgundy became Wood Aged Semillon.

The Wolf has always been drawn to Barossa Semillon and in 2020 turned some Semillon into a fortified and called it our Hard Semillon.

In 2021 the Wolf knew he had to to play with the fruit again. Sourcing some excellent fruit from a grower in Eden Valley, the Semillon journey began.

With the 2021 Vintage, the wine plan came around the barrel, not the fruit with the discovery of some rare used white wine French Oak puncheons (500lt).

After crushing, it was basket pressed before fermentation on full solids. Ageing on fine lees has given the wine a textural mouth feel that was described by a winemaker mate as ‘so rad it’ll blow you mind’.

With minimal filtration, this wine was hand bottled and labelled in the Shed in January 2022.

Truthfully the Wolf made this wine for selfish reasons, to reminisce of the fun that was had in the early 90’s.But he hopes it allow others to either rekindle the flame with Barossa Semillon or go on a first date and begin their own love affair.
